28th Week of “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign

August 6, 2024
FacebookTwitterEmail

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign has consistently called for the abolition of executions and torture in Iran. It urges all compatriots and prisoners in the country’s prisons to support and join this vital movement.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign entered its 28th week. In a statement, the striking prisoners announced that they are in their 28th week of hunger strike, with the number of participating prisons now reaching 18. The prisoners also drew attention to the ongoing transfer of a large number of individuals to various prisons for execution. They emphasized the urgent need for the abolition of the death penalty and torture in Iran and called for the support and participation of all compatriots and prisoners across the country.

In the previous week, the campaign saw the participation of Shiraz Prison. Additionally, in a concerning development, four prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement in Bandar Abbas Prison in preparation for execution.

Text of the Statement: “The 28th Week of the ‘No to Executions Tuesdays’ Campaign”

Political prisoners from the men’s and momen’s Wards of Lakan Prison in Rasht have officially joined the “No to Executions Tuesdays” Campaign.

Over the past week, more than 23 prisoners have been transferred to solitary confinement in various Iranian prisons under a range of charges. This includes 16 prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison, four in Bandar Abbas Prison, and others across different facilities. The government has continued its campaign of repression and pressure on prisoners.

In another repressive action, following sit-ins, strikes, and protests against the death sentences in the Women’s Ward of Evin Prison, the government imposed a ban on visiting rights for 37 prisoners in protest.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign has now entered its 28th week. Last Tuesday, the Women’s Ward in Rasht announced that they had joined the campaign and expressed concern for the fate of ordinary prisoners who are under sentence, alongside political prisoners. Additionally, 11 members from the Men’s Ward of Lakan Prison in Rasht have also joined the campaign. In their statement, they condemned the executions in Iran as “medieval sentences.”

With the addition of Lakan Prison in Rasht, the number of prisons participating in the campaign has increased to 18, including:

·        Ghezel Hesar Prison (Units 3 and 4)

·        Evin Prison (Women’s Ward, Wards 4, 6, and 8)

·        Karaj Central Prison

·        Khorramabad Prison

·        Khoy Prison

·        Naqadeh Prison

·        Saqqez Prison

·        Baneh Prison

·        Marivan Prison

·        Kamyaran Prison

·        Salmas Prison

·        Urmia Prison

·        Tabriz Prison

·        Ardabil Prison

·        Mashhad Prison

·        Nizam Shiraz Prison

·        Ghaemshahr Prison

·        Lakan Rasht Prison (Women’s and Men’s Wards)

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign continues its call for the abolition of executions and torture in Iran. It urges all compatriots and prisoners to join this movement and stand in solidarity against these inhumane practices.
