Political Prisoners Continue Hunger Strike Against the Death Penalty

The hunger strike of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” Campaign has entered its fifth consecutive week. On Monday, February 26, 2024, political prisoners reaffirmed their commitment to the strike, which aims to challenge the Iranian regime’s widespread use of the death penalty.

Reports from families of political prisoners indicate that on Tuesday, February 27, a group of political prisoners in Evin Prison’s Ward 4 will join others nationwide in continuing the hunger strike during this significant fifth week of the campaign.

A reliable source shared that prisoners who joined the movement in its second week have emphasized the importance of unity in combating state-led executions. The source reported their statement:

“It is possible to stop the execution machine with unity and collective action. Therefore, we stand in solidarity with other prisoners, including those striking in Qezel-Hesar Prison, Karaj Penitentiary, Khorramabad, Mashhad, Saqqez, and beyond. On Tuesday, February 27, during the fifth week of this campaign, we will continue our hunger strike.”

The campaign has garnered growing support from political prisoners across multiple facilities, highlighting collective resistance to the death penalty and the call for urgent action to end the regime’s executions.
