87th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 52 Prisons Across Iran

September 23, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the 87th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is being held under circumstances where the number of executions has reached an unprecedented level. In this week’s statement, prisoners, recalling the execution of Babak Shahbazi, one of the members of this campaign, emphasized that “Life is the fundamental right of every human being, and execution is an unjustifiable act of violence against this right.”

The full text of the statement for the 87th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is as follows:

Continuation of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in the 87th Week in 52 Different Prisons

The 87th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is taking place while the shadow of fear and repression weighs more heavily than ever on the people of Iran. In recent months, we have witnessed an unprecedented surge in executions: since September 16, at least 46 executions have been reported, including two women and six fellow Baluch citizens, while in the month of Sharivar (August 21-September 22) alone, 186 executions, including seven women, were recorded.

Among them, the brutal execution of Babak Shahbazi, another member of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, on the anniversary of the 2022 popular uprising, without even a final meeting with his family, stands as a bitter symbol of the inhuman conduct and human rights violations perpetrated by this murderous regime. The abduction of Babak Shahbazi from his ward for the purpose of secretly executing him triggered protests and a sit-in by his fellow inmates in Qezel Hesar Prison.

A regime that on the one hand boasts of “pardoning” prisoners, on the other hand exposes its grim and inhumane reality each week through the ever-growing number of executions.

This year, coinciding with the reopening of schools, once again conscious and progressive teachers and students are at the forefront of the struggle for freedom and equality. The youth of Iran are the nightmare of this regime, and in every school and university, activists stand firm to turn these spaces into centers of resistance and voices of opposition to the inhuman death sentences against their compatriots.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign cries out to the freedom-loving people of Iran and all human rights defenders worldwide that silence in the face of these violent and inhumane policies is unacceptable. Our voices must be louder than any repression or injustice. Every week, every Tuesday, in memory of the victims of executions, we rise up for justice and in defense of life. Life is the fundamental right of every human being, and execution is an unjustifiable act of violence against this right.

Members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in the 87th week of the campaign, are on hunger strike in the following 52 prisons:

Evin Prison, Qezel Hesar Prison (Units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Karaj Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Qarchak Prison, Khorrin Varamin Prison, Choobindar Qazvin Prison, Ahar Prison, Arak Prison, Langeroud Qom Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Yasuj Prison, Esfahan Asadabad Prison, Dastgerd Esfahan Prison, Sheyban Ahvaz Prison, Sepidar Ahvaz Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Nezam Prison, Shiraz, Adelabad Shiraz Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Firouzabad Fars Prison, Dehdasht Prison, Zahedan Prison (women’s ward), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Behbahan Prison, Bam Prison, Yazd Prison, Kahnouj Prison, Tabas Prison, Mashhad Prison, Sabzevar Prison, Gonbad Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Rudsar Prison, Haviq Talesh Prison, Ezbaram Lahijan Prison, Dizel Abad Kermanshah Prison, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Mahabad Prison, Boukan Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Sanandaj Prison, and Kamyaran Prison.
