On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, prisoners in 52 prisons across Iran mark the 90th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. This week, coinciding with the World Day Against the Death Penalty, the campaign’s statement begins by expressing gratitude to the people who have stood in solidarity with nationwide protests against executions, once again reaffirming the call: “No to execution—for anyone!”
This week’s statement highlights the dire situation of female prisoners in Qarchak and Evin prisons, refers to the confirmation of the death sentence for Ehsan Faridi, a political prisoner and student detained in Tabriz Prison, as well as three other prisoners of conscience, and reminds the public that 162 people have been executed in only the first 20 days of October. The prisoners urge the international community to take immediate and effective action to stop this criminal trend.

Continuation of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in Its 90th Week Across 52 Prisons Nationwide
We extend our sincere gratitude to all the brave and freedom-loving compatriots who participated in the broad campaign marking the World Day Against the Death Penalty, amplifying the resounding voice of opposition to executions throughout Iran. This passionate presence, unwavering support, and enduring solidarity have given us invaluable strength and determination to continue our path toward an Iran free from the death penalty.
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign continues to depend on such support so that this call for justice and humanity may resonate more powerfully each day in the conscience of the awakened and throughout the international community:
“No to execution—for anyone!”
While the growing pressure and inhumane conditions in the country’s prisons persist, we have witnessed the transfer of female political and religious prisoners from Qarchak Prison to Evin Prison. These women, following the horrific murder of their fellow inmate Somayeh Rashidi and their widespread protests against the inhumane conditions in Qarchak, are now being held in Evin under extremely harsh circumstances, deprived of basic necessities and heating facilities. These inhumane conditions, not limited to Evin, are yet another manifestation of the torture of prisoners and the gross violation of human rights.
Although these women have escaped the hell of Qarchak, hundreds of other female prisoners, including women sentenced to death, remain imprisoned in that torture chamber. Qarchak, like other infernal prisons, must be dismantled, and those responsible for human rights violations must be prosecuted.
In continuation of the issuance of unjust verdicts, a few days ago the death sentence of Ehsan Faridi, a political prisoner and student detained in Tabriz Prison, was upheld-a decision devoid of due process, intended solely to spread fear and intimidation among youth and students. This is a blatant violation of human rights and human dignity and must be strongly condemned.
Furthering the campaign of intimidation against society, death sentences were issued for three prisoners of conscience: Nasimeh Eslamzehi, her husband Arsalan Sheikhi, and Amanj Karavanchi. These verdicts epitomize the injustice of an authoritarian judiciary and compel us to keep raising our voices against widespread and brutal executions.
In this context, coinciding with the World Day Against the Death Penalty, prisoners participating in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in Qezel Hesar Prison chanted slogans against executions, expressing their outrage and abhorrence toward these cruel and inhuman rulings.
Amid the recent wave of mass executions-particularly in Qezel Hesar Prison-on Monday, October 13, 2025, following the transfer of several inmates from Ward 2 of Qezel Hesar to solitary confinement for execution, prisoners in this ward-over 1,500 of whom are on death row-staged a sit-in, refused the prison food, and demanded the return of their fellow inmates. We call on other prisoners to follow the example of those in Qezel Hesar and oppose the execution of their cellmates, and we urge anti-execution activists outside prisons to take more decisive steps to stop the machinery of execution and to stand in solidarity with the families of those sentenced to death.
Reports from various prisons indicate that 162 prisoners have been executed in the first 20 days of Mehr alone (September 23- October 12), and as of this date-six months and 20 days into the current Iranian year-more than 1,000 people have been hanged. These shocking statistics have deeply scarred the conscience of both Iranian society and the world and demand urgent and decisive global action to halt this criminal process.
