Since February 28, 2026, Iranian authorities have carried out a series of political executions involving prisoners, individuals arrested in connection with protests, and defendants accused of security-related offenses. Reports gathered from state media and judicially affiliated sources indicate a sharp escalation in executions used against individuals accused of political dissent, opposition activities, or alleged threats to state security.
Iran Human Rights Monitor has documented at least 25 executions connected to political and security-related cases during this period. Of these, 8 were members of the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and 15 were individuals connected to protest-related or politically motivated cases.
These executions have taken place amid growing concerns that the death penalty is increasingly being used as a tool to suppress dissent, intimidate society, and silence opposition voices.
