Iran: Activists prosecuted in Khuzestan

Seven labor, culture and political activists in north Khuzestan Province were summoned to court. Five of these activists are waiting for the confirmation of their sentences from appeal courts. They have been identified as;
– Ali Nejati, 55, who is a member of the Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Company Syndicate Board. He has to introduce himself to prison within five days of the summons he received on August 24 to serve his prison term.
– Activist Ezatollah Jafari, 54, also received a prison term.
Five other people are waiting for the confirmation of their sentences.
– Ms. Ashraf Rahim Khani, 54, sentenced to one year of prison. She was a former political prisoner in the 80’s who was arrested on charges of supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran. She is being charged for running a library called the Mother’s Library.
– Ms. Zeinab Keshvari, 37, has been sentenced to four months of prison. She was charged for cooperating in running the Mother’s Library. She was violently attacked, while pregnant, by Revolutionary Guards Corps agents during the night and lost her baby as a result.
– Abdulreza Shakeri sentenced to one year of prison. He is also a former political prisoner and was jailed for four years in Evin Prison of supporting the PMOI.
– Ali Mohammad Jahangiri, 63, sentenced to four years of prison to be served in Yazd. He was the managing director of Pars Library. He is also a former political prisoner and was jailed during the 80’s.
– Shapour Rashno, 42, sentenced to one year of prison to be served in Shiraz Prison.
The Mother Library was founded in 2010 and received a warm welcome by women in the town of Andimeshk.
