Two women political prisoners Atena Daemi and Golrokh Iraee were attacked by five male security officers on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in Evin Prison and transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin, Tehran Province.
The prisoners of the women’s ward of Evin had previously resisted interrogation over a fabricated case recently filed against them.
Subsequently Evin Prison officials declared on January 16, 2018, that they have been called to Branch 4 of Evin’s Prosecutor’s Office.
The prisoners have refused to appear in court since they have not received written summons and they have not been informed of the reason for the summoning. Both prisoners sent out letters last week declaring support for the nationwide uprising in Iran.
On January 24, they were summoned for the fifth time to court and subsequently taken to Evin’s Ward 2A for interrogation. The interrogators viciously beat them up after they resisted and ultimately transferred them to Qarchak Prison.
Varamin’s Qarchak Prison is a notorious detention center for ordinary and dangerous women criminals where the living conditions are viciously below the standard. Women political prisoners are transferred to Qarchak for physical and psychological torture.
