Mostafa Nili, the lawyer of Tortured Sharif University students Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi, provided more details about the hearing of the charges against the two, which was held in the Revolutionary Court of Tehran on Saturday, July 3.

Nili said that during the hearing, he requested the transfer of his clients from Security Ward 209 to the General Ward on Evin Prison.

Speaking with the state-run Emtedad Persian news site, Mostafa Nili said “Corruption on earth, assembly and collusion to act against national security and propaganda activities against the regime are the charges against Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi, both of whom have denied all the charges.”

Nili added that during the hearing, they requested the transfer of his clients from Security Ward 209 to the General Ward, to which the judge replied that a decision will be made after review.

Stating that the last defenses of the Tortured Sharif University students have not been heared so far, Nili continued theat the investigation of the charges has been postponed to the next sessions.

Earlier, Mostafa Neyli, tweeted that Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi are still being held in security ward 209 of Evin Prison after more than 14 months, and the authorities’ failure to transfere them to the public ward has made it difficult to represent them.

The Sharif University of Technology honor students were due to go on trial on trumped-up national security charges on April 11, 2021, but the session was canceled for unknown reasons.

Nearly 15 months after agents of Iran’s Intelligence Ministry arrested and tortured university students Ali Younesi and Amirhossein Moradi, they are still held in Ward 209 of Evin Prison in Tehran, controlled by the ministry, while being denied access to lawyers and their relatives.

Both students have been tortured and held in prolonged solitary confinement.

In an interview with the London-based IranWire on April 14, 2021, former cellmate of Ali Younesi, Mojtaba Hosseini said that during his initial detention, Ali Younesi was held in solitary confinement in a small cell for 60 days with a single ceiling light always on.

Hosseini said he saw one of Ali’s eyes was badly swollen, for which the prison physician had prescribed antibiotics.

Iran’s intelligence agencies have a documented history of pressuring detainees to make false, self-incriminating statements and then smearing the defendants by broadcasting their forced “confessions” on state-run TV.
