The interrogators and torturers of the Intelligence Department of Ahvaz have been torturing and harassing political prisoner Mehran Qareh Baghi in recent weeks.
The interrogators are seeking information about Mr. Qareh Baghi’s friends despite the fact that he has been in Behbahan Prison since 2019.
They have also brandished threats against Mehran Qareh Baghi telling him, “We will send you to exile in Sistan so that no one would hear your voice. There will be no news of you and everyone will forget you. We will detain you so long that you will lose your sanity.”
At 3 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021, security forces abruptly moved political prisoner Mehran Qareh Baghi from Behbahan Prison to the detention center of the Intelligence Department of Ahvaz. He is allegedly accused of “propaganda against the state in favor of the People’s Mojahedin while in detention.” This is why the Intelligence Department of Ahvaz has been interrogating him and putting so much pressure on him.
Agents returned Mehran Qareh Baghi and another prisoner, Mohammad Hossein Ansarifar, to Behbahan Prison on August 9, 2021.
Mehran Qareh Baghi, 29, has a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. He is from Sarhad Agha Village near Behbahan. Agents of the IRGC Intelligence arrested him on January 18, 2020. They interrogated him for one month and sent him to the Prison of Behbahan.
The Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Behbahan has arraigned Mehran Qareh Baghi alleged charges of “propaganda against the state,” “complicity in the destruction and burning of the public property,” “complicity in disruption of public order,” “complicity in making combustible non-military tools,” “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran,” and “corruption on Earth.”
Mr. Qareh Baghi had been previously sentenced to three years in prison for “insulting the supreme leader” and “propaganda against the state.”
Earlier reports in April 2021 indicated that agents of the clerical regime’s Judiciary and the Intelligence Department of Behbahan had psychologically tortured the family of political prisoner Mehran Qareh Baghi by telling them that their son had been sentenced to death. This was before the court convenes to issue any sentence for the young man. They told his mother that the death penalty for her son had been issued.
