The Revolutionary Court of Tehran, Branch 28, issued a death sentence for Kamran Rezaeifar, 56, charged with Moharebeh, or waging war on God, for supporting the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
Agents of the Intelligence Ministry arrested Kamran Rezaeifar in January 2020. They took Mr. Rezaeifar to wards 240 and 209 of Evin to conduct their interrogations.
In order to extract forced confessions from him, they kept him for 77 days in solitary confinement under psychological and physical torture.
As a method of the psychological torture, prison authorities arrested and imprisoned several of Kamran Rezaeifar’s relatives, including his wife and son.
Rezaeifar deposited a heavy bail to win his temporary release from prison. In less than a month, however, he was arrested in June 2020 and returned to Evin. In January 2021, he was tried by the 28th Branch of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court.
Kamran Rezaeifar suffers from cataracts in both eyes. In February 2021, he had an operation on one of his eyes.
Iran Human Rights Monitor calls for the abolishment of the death penalty in Iran. Iran HRM urges the United Nations, the High Commissioner for human rights, and human rights organizations to take immediate action to save the life of Kamran Rezaeifar. We further urge the UN and the international community to send a delegation to Iran to visit prisons and particularly political prisoners.
