Female worker dies as a spinning machine pulls in her head

The scarf of a woman got caught up in the machinery in a spinning factory in Semnan, NE Iran, and pulled her head inside the machine.

Marzieh Taherian, 21, was working with a spinning machine when her scarf caught in a ring spinning machine, leading to her death.

The state-run ILNA news agency reported the incident in the Kavir Textile Factory of Semnan, on November 6, 2021.

Some experts describe the intolerable conditions of female workers in production units as “new slavery.”

Low wages and lack of job safety are among the problems they face. They do not have access to decent jobs and equal rights and opportunities.

Women are forced to accept any low-paying job, the harsh work conditions in small workshops, which are not monitored by the Labor Ministry and do not abide by the Labor Law. So those who work in these workshops are deprived of legal support, benefits, insurance, and safety.

Workers do not have security at their work place.
On the same day, a worker died in Birjand, Southern Khorasan Province, when a wall crumbled on him. The young man was only 22 years old.
The Forensics Office of Tehran Province has reported 1,708 referals to this office in just six months for accidents in the work place.
