She is the sixteenth woman whose execution has been recorded in Iran in 2023.
On the early morning of Tuesday, September 5, 2023, the execution order of a woman from Varamin was carried out in Qom Central Prison. She had been sentenced to death for intentional murder.
As of the time of this report, the identity of this woman has not been verified. The execution of this woman has not yet been officially announced by Iranian media or official sources.
On Monday, September 4, 2023, the execution order of another woman named Mahboubeh Roshandel, a 30-year-old, was carried out in Mashhad Central Prison. According to informed sources, Mahboubeh Roshandel, a mother of a child, had previously been arrested on charges of “murdering her mother-in-law” and was later sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Iranian regime. During her imprisonment, this imprisoned woman was deprived of seeing her six-year-old child, and the efforts to obtain consent from the victim’s family to save her remained unsuccessful until the last moment.
The news of the execution of this imprisoned woman has not been announced by the government-affiliated media, as of the time this report is being prepared.
It is unfortunate that due to news censorship and media control by the government, the execution of women is not adequately reported, and there is silence regarding these executions in official government-affiliated media. In the midst of this, women are imprisoned and executed in a climate of injustice and absolute lawlessness.
Women in Iranian prisons and detention centers endure the worst conditions and face the most severe forms of torture. Previously, there have been reports highlighting instances of assault against female prisoners. These women are deprived of even the basic facilities that every prisoner is entitled to.
Based on the statistics recorded by Human Rights Monitor) Iran HRM), at least 16 women prisoners have been executed in Iranian regime prisons since the beginning of the current calendar year.
Iran holds the record as the largest executioner of women in the world, with at least 16 women executed in 2023. The fact that this is the sixteenth woman to be executed in 2023 further highlights the urgency of the situation. Human Rights Monitor calls for immediate action from human rights organizations and the United Nations to halt the executions, particularly of women in Iran.
