Executions in Iranian Prisons Include Juvenile Offenders, a woman, and Disabled Man

Iran continues to carry out executions at an alarming rate, with multiple cases reported across various prisons in early November 2024. The most recent incidents include the execution of two prisoners, one of them a woman, in Rasht, as well as the hanging of several other inmates in cities like Ahar, Shiraz, and Zanjan.

Rasht, Iran – Two Prisoners Executed, Including a Woman

On the morning of Thursday, November 7, 2024, two prisoners were executed at Lakan Prison in Rasht. Among those executed was a man identified as Majid Jamali. The identity of the female prisoner remains unknown. According to reports, both individuals were convicted on drug-related charges.

Ahar, Zanjan, and Shiraz Prisons – Four Executions

On the same day, four additional executions were carried out in the cities of Ahar, Zanjan, and Shiraz:

The executed prisoner in Ahar prison was Yousef Ramazani who had been detained three years ago on drug-related charges.

Another execution took place at Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, where Majid Babaei was hanged. Babaei was arrested five years prior and sentenced to death for murder.

Two prisoners, including a juvenile offender, were executed in Zanjan Prison on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

Details of the Executed in Zanjan:

Ezzat Seyyedi, aged 40, was convicted of murder and has been detained for five years. Reports indicate that Seyyedi, who had a mental disability, accidentally shot a friend with a hunting rifle during a prank.

Soleiman Abbaszadeh, aged 21, was only 16 years and 11 months old at the time of the alleged crime. He was arrested four years ago for killing a person who reportedly attempted to assault him. The court did not consider his young age or self-defense claims, sentencing him to death.

Ghezel Hesar and Khorramabad Prisons – Executions Continue

Five prisoners were executed at Ghezel Hesar and Khorramabad prisons. This brings the total number of those executed in Ghezel Hesar on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, to eleven. Human rights organizations had previously confirmed the identities of seven individuals, with four additional names now reported:

Hossein Aghasi, convicted on drug-related charges.

Abdollah Geravand, sentenced to death for murder.

An unnamed prisoner convicted of murder.

An unidentified Afghan national executed for drug-related offenses.

Simultaneously, in Khorramabad Prison, Mostafa Roozbehani and Hamed Darvishi were executed. Darvishi, a 40-year-old taxi driver from Boroujerd, was detained three years ago on drug charges.
