Political prisoner Manouchehr Fallah has been sentenced to death after 18 months of legal uncertainty. The verdict was issued by Judge Darvish Goftar of Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht on charges of moharebeh (waging war against God).
According to received reports, on February 2, 2025, Fallah’s lawyers, Ms. Khorsandi and Ms. Khoshesteh, were officially notified of the death sentence. His trial took place via video conference on December 11, 2024, during which he was accused of “moharebeh through actions against national security” in the second part of his case. Specifically, he was charged with damaging the buildings of the Gilan Judiciary and the Intelligence Organization of the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps).
During the legal proceedings, Fallah was denied access to legal representation, and his lawyers were prevented from entering the case or defending him.
Manouchehr Fallah was initially arrested on June 17, 2023. Although the investigating judge issued a bail order following his interrogation, authorities at the court and Lakan Prison in Rasht blocked the finalization of his release.
Previously, Fallah was sentenced to 22 months and 17 days in prison by Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht, presided over by Judge Mehdi Rasekhi, on charges of “insulting Ali Khamenei” and “propaganda against the regime.” Under Iran’s sentence aggregation law, his maximum prison term was reduced to 1 year and 3 months, which he has already served. However, he remains imprisoned in Lakan Prison despite completing his sentence.
Iran HRM calls on international human rights organizations and UN human rights bodies to intervene to halt the execution of Manouchehr Fallah and other prisoners and to pressure the Iranian regime to end the execution of political dissidents and detainees.
