The life of political prisoner Kamran Rezaei-Far, 59 years old, is in severe danger due to Evin Prison authorities’ prevention of his transfer to a hospital and obstruction of his chemotherapy treatment. According to informed sources, the judiciary and Evin Prison officials have deliberately endangered his health and life through their negligence.
Kamran Rezaei-Far, who is suffering from advanced stomach cancer and pulmonary embolism, has not been transferred to specialized medical centers outside the prison despite his critical physical condition.
Delay in Treatment and Risk of Death
According to reports, half of his stomach and part of his pancreas were removed during a major surgery. Additionally, the presence of blood clots in his lungs has significantly increased the risk of stroke and respiratory arrest.
An informed source stated, “The Legal Medicine Organization (forensic authority) has so far refused to assess and issue a certificate declaring his inability to endure imprisonment. Meanwhile, Heydatollah Farzadi, the head of Evin Prison, along with the prison’s medical director, have taken virtually no effective action toward Kamran Rezaei-Far’s treatment.” The source added that his family has repeatedly visited the prison to follow up on his condition but has received no response.
History of Arrest and Sentencing
Kamran Rezaei-Far, a resident of Tehran, was first arrested in January 2020 on charges of affiliation with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). After interrogation in the security wards 240 and 209 of Evin Prison, he was temporarily released on bail. However, he was re-arrested in June 2020 and faced charges of “corruption on earth” (efsad fel-arz). Eventually, in September 2021, a death sentence was issued against him, which was later overturned and commuted to five years of imprisonment.
In his latest arrest in September 2023, he, along with four other political prisoners, was once again tried by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, on charges of “connection with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran.” In this case, Kamran Rezaei-Far was sentenced to five years in prison and is currently serving his sentence in Evin Prison.
