New Wave of Executions in Iran in Shahroud, Mianeh, and Zahedan Prisons

Amid an unprecedented wave of executions in Iran, three more prisoners were hanged on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in the prisons of Shahroud, Mianeh, and Zahedan. Reports indicate that at least 87 prisoners have been executed in Iran since April 1, 2025  —an alarming figure averaging more than four executions per day, or roughly one every six hours.

Execution of Fereydoun Mohammadi in Zahedan

At dawn on Sunday, May 11, 2025, Fereydoun Mohammadi, a prisoner sentenced to death for murder, was executed in Zahedan Prison. Mohammadi, a native and resident of Fanouj, had been arrested seven years ago and was previously held in Chabahar Prison before being transferred to Zahedan.

Execution of a Prisoner in Shahroud

On the same day, Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the judiciary, reported the execution of a prisoner in Shahroud Prison. The individual was accused of “rape,” though their identity was not disclosed—a recurring issue that highlights due process and transparency violations in the judicial system of the Islamic Republic.

Execution of an Unnamed Prisoner in Mianeh

Another prisoner was executed in Mianeh Prison on similar charges of rape. According to available information, the death sentence had been issued by the Criminal Court of Mianeh and upheld by the Supreme Court. However, no further details about the identity or case of this person have been made public.

Execution of Rasoul Rezaei in Yasuj on May 7, 2025

At dawn on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, a prisoner named Rasoul Rezaei was executed in Yasuj Prison. He had been convicted on drug-related charges. On the same day, another prisoner, Ashraf Shahbazi, was also executed in Yasuj Prison.

Executions in Yasuj and Rasht Not Covered by State Media

In the early morning of Wednesday, May 7, 2025, a 54-year-old prisoner named Jafar Pourasadi was executed in Lakan Prison, Rasht. He was married with five children and had been arrested two years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.

Also at dawn on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, a prisoner named Ashraf Shahbazi was executed in Yasuj Prison. She was 51 years old, married, and had three children. She had been arrested three years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.

Execution of Hassan Saei in Tabriz Prison

In the early morning of Tuesday, May 6, 2025, a prisoner named Hassan Saei was executed in Tabriz Prison. He was a resident of Bostanabad and had been sentenced to death for murder.

Execution of Mehdi Zeinali in Mashhad

On the morning of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, a prisoner named Mehdi Zeinali was executed in Mashhad Prison. Zeinali, 40 years old, was originally from Birjand and a resident of Aliabad Katoul. He had been arrested four years earlier on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.
