Ongoing Alarming Trend of Increasing Executions in Iran
In recent days, at least five prisoners have been executed in various prisons across Iran. These executions come as the recorded number of executions in the month of Ordibehesht 1404 (April–May 2025) has reached a shocking total of 119. This alarming statistic raises serious concerns about the escalating use of the death penalty in Iran.
Execution of Three Prisoners in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz
On the morning of Wednesday, May 14, 2025, three prisoners named Naser Hamidi, Isa Ahmadi, and Hadi Soleimani were executed in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.
Naser Hamidi, a resident of Dezful, had been arrested four years ago on charges of murder and subsequently sentenced to death. Isa Ahmadi, another executed prisoner, was arrested on charges of assault and was a resident of Shiraz. No further information has been released so far regarding the case of Hadi Soleimani.
Execution of a Prisoner in Isfahan Prison
At dawn on Thursday, May 15, 2025, Ali Akbar Ansari, a prisoner from Kashmar, was executed in Isfahan Prison. Ansari, who had been sentenced to death on drug-related charges, worked as a tailor in an effort to support himself and his family.
Execution of an Unidentified Prisoner in Sabzevar Prison
Reza Bahmanesh, the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Joghatai, announced the execution of a prisoner at dawn on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Sabzevar Central Prison. The identity of this prisoner has not been disclosed, but according to judicial authorities, he had been in custody for two years on murder charges.
