On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, the Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office issued an indictment for Mahmoud Mehrabi, a resident of Isfahan detained in Dastgerd prison, on the charge of Corruption on Earth. In addition, this prisoner has also been accused of 186 other charges.

The second investigation branch of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Mobarakeh in Isfahan province has issued an indictment against Mr. Mahmoud Mehrabi with 187 charges, including, “corruption on earth through widespread publication of lies on Instagram, propaganda against the state, inciting the military and law enforcement forces to refuse to carry out their duties, inciting people to war and killing, and insulting Khomeini.

The charge of corruption on earth has been issued against Mahmoud Mehrabi without sufficient reasons. The IRGC Intelligence has embarked on wide-scale efforts to fabricate a case against Mahmoud Mehrabi. Some 50 private plaintiffs from among the city’s government officials have been included in the file!!
Although Mahmoud Mehrabi is just a protester in cyberspace, the intelligence services are planning to file a serious case against this political prisoner.

Mahmoud Mehrabi has been held in custody at the Central Prison of Isfahan (Dastgerd) since February 1, 2023, and his physical condition is severely inadequate due to illness and the lack of proper medical facilities and care.
Mr. Mehrabi has been deprived of the right to access his chosen lawyer so far, and the Iranian judiciary has considered a state-appointed lawyer for him.

Mahmoud Mehrabi is single. He worked in the electrical field. He was arrested for the first time on February 1, 2023, by the security forces in Isfahan. He was released on bail from Isfahan’s Dastgerd Prison on March 16, 2023. But a few hours later, he was arrested again at his home in Isfahan and taken to prison. A source close to Mr. Mehrabi’s family said, “He was arrested again due to the publication of critical posts on social media.”

What is an indictment?

An indictment is a claim filed by the prosecutor accusing the defendant of guilt. The prosecutor asks the court to examine to issue its verdict by examining the indictment. In fact, by issuing an indictment, the prosecutor declares that their investigations prove that the defendant is guilty. Therefore, the prosecutor requests the court to issue its punitive verdict.
