In the past week, numerous executions have been reported in various prisons across Iran. Between September 6 and 10, 2025, at least 11 prisoners were executed in the prisons of Qom, Kermanshah, Kerman, Gorgan, Ahvaz, and Dezful. In addition, a death-row prisoner in Qezel Hesar Prison committed suicide due to psychological pressure and unbearable prison conditions, losing his life.
As a result, the number of executed prisoners in Iran over just three weeks has reached at least 108—a figure that reflects an escalation of the government’s policy of repression and its widespread use of the death penalty.
Details of the executions
- Qom Prison: Yasin Afshari (charged with murder), Hamid Farjam, and Javad Mohammadpanah (drug-related charges).
- Dizelabad Prison, Kermanshah: Kamyar Najafzadeh and Omid Rahmani (drug-related charges).
- Kerman Prison: Ali Razavi (charged with murder).
- Gorgan Prison: Abdollah Mohseni (36 years old, father of a young child) and Behzad Parsa (from the Bakhtiari tribe); both on drug-related charges.
- Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz: Yousef Asadi (31, from Izeh) and Ahmad Bani-Asad (38, from Susangerd); both charged with murder.
- Dezful Prison: Saman Abdouli (executed on a murder charge).
Suicide in Qezel Hesar Prison
Alongside these executions, Yaghoub Sabzi, a 26-year-old prisoner from Kuhdasht who had been sentenced to death on drug-related charges, committed suicide in Qezel hesar Prison on September 10, 2025, and died.
The widespread executions in Iran are carried out without adequate access to independent lawyers, fair trial procedures, or judicial transparency. Families are often informed of the executions only after they have taken place, with no opportunity for last-minute appeals or interventions.
