The 121st Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 56 Prisons Across Iran

May 19, 2026
FacebookTwitterEmail

Political prisoners in 56 different prisons across the country went on a hunger strike for the 121st consecutive week in protest against the widespread issuance and execution of cruel death sentences. This campaign, while condemning the recent executions of protesters and political prisoners, has called execution the government’s most important tool for suppression, state murder, and creating terror in society. The striking prisoners, emphasizing the necessity of standing up against this killing machine, called on all civil and human rights activists and the international community to become a unified voice and unite to stop executions in Iran.

The continuation of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in 56 different prisons in its 121st week

For more than two months, the tyrannical rulers of Iran have occupied the city streets using their marginal agents and affiliates, providing training on the use of weapons in public, and by instrumentalizing children in these gatherings, they intend to institutionalize violence and suppression against citizens and protesters.

In the recent week, the illegitimate Velayat-e Faqih government hanged political prisoner and Baluch compatriot, Abdoljalil Shahbakhsh, in Zahedan Prison; and in another criminal act, it executed Mohammad Abbasi, one of the detainees of the January uprising, on charges of participating in the uprising. This is while his daughter, Fatemeh Abbasi, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison and is currently incarcerated in Evin Prison.

The ruling dictatorship, in fear of being overthrown, has no goal other than creating fear and terror in society by issuing and executing cruel death sentences; alongside political prisoners, we witness the daily execution of youths on non-political charges.

We have repeatedly said that execution, regardless of the type of charge, is not merely the implementation of an unjust judicial sentence that deprives a human being of the right to life; rather, it is the most important tool of suppression and state murder, which has deep political, class, and ideological roots in the sovereignty of the Velayat-e Faqih. This tool is utilized to create terror among the people in order to force the oppressed into submission; but what a vain delusion!

If today the government hangs youths one after another, it knows very well that these youths have felt class discrimination with all their being and are aware of the systematic corruption and plundering of the regime. It executes them to frighten, but is oblivious to the fact that this violence is not only not silencing, but it sows the seeds of awareness, resistance, and uprising in hearts.

We believe that one must not be subdued in the face of these executions. The “No to Execution” campaign is a necessary step towards justice and freedom and the elimination of any kind of discrimination and oppression in the Iran of tomorrow.

Overt and practical opposition to execution is a very important and decisive measure and a true touchstone for today’s fighters.

We in the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign, as part of the No to Execution movement, ask all political, human rights, trade union, and civil activists to unite more than ever to stop executions, and we request workers, teachers, students, and retirees who have thus far been the loud voice of no to execution in the streets and neighborhoods to make our voice heard by awakened consciences in international communities.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, in the hope of a free Iran devoid of suppression and execution, and in protest against the issuance and execution of death sentences in Iran, is on hunger strike on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in its 121st week in the following 56 prisons:
