The 137th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 62 Prisons Across Iran

September 8, 2026
FacebookTwitterEmail

In the 137th consecutive week of this protest movement, members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign went on a hunger strike in 62 prisons across the country. This widespread hunger strike has been carried out in response to the relentless acceleration of the machine of suppression and an unprecedented increase in the number of executions, including the issuance of death sentences and long-term imprisonment for protesters.

Highlighting the severe economic crises and the ruling regime’s fear of popular uprisings, the striking prisoners emphasized the necessity of continuing this resistance, despite all the dangers and limitations inside the prisons, and called for global solidarity and the immediate intervention of international organizations to halt the execution machine in Iran.

Please find below the full text of the statement by the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign:

Continuation of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign; the 137th Week in 62 Prisons Across the Country

Over the past week, the government’s machine of suppression and execution continued the slaughter of prisoners with relentless speed, hanging at least 11 individuals. Statistics show that since the beginning of Shahrivar ( Iranian month started on August 23, 2026), more than 45 prisoners have been executed. Furthermore, in recent days, Ali Zarei, one of those who suffered eye injuries during the 2022 protests, was sentenced to death in Qezel Hesar Prison.

Meanwhile, reports indicate the suspicious death of a political prisoner named Erfan Mirzaei in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan, who was murdered by government agents. In another development, after the Supreme Court agreed to a retrial in the case of Alireza Sepahi, a prisoner sentenced to death in Isfahan, his case was referred to a parallel branch. However, without holding a hearing, this branch rejected the retrial and sent the case to the Sentence Enforcement Branch for the execution of the death penalty.

According to additional information, Taraneh Rahimi, Navid Elyasi, Abolfazl Dadgostar, Mehdi Mansouri, Ahmadreza Saeedi, Mehrdad Boeiri, Mohammad Mehdi Asadi, Armin Gholami, Parsa Jafari, and Mehdi Jafari (Khosravi) have each been sentenced to death and 11 years in prison.

Furthermore, Romina Rahimi and Milad Boeiri were each sentenced to 36 years in prison, Hamed Mehralian to 26 years in prison, and Setayesh Saedi, Sajjad Abedi, and Ali Boeiri were each sentenced to 16 years in prison. Accordingly, the total prison sentences issued for the 16 defendants in this case reach 256 years. These sentences were issued at the preliminary stage. We referred to this collective case last week, and the lives of these prisoners are in danger.

The intensification of these crackdowns and executions, both individually and collectively, reflects the ruling regime’s fear of nationwide protests and upcoming uprisings. The worsening economic crisis, three-digit inflation, the jump in the dollar rate to 230,000 tomans, the start of the official price hike of gasoline on Tuesday, and the daily shrinking of the tables of workers and laborers, depict the prospect of a social explosion more than ever before.

Under these critical circumstances, the necessity of continuing the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, despite all the dangers and limitations inside the prisons, has doubled. We, the members of this campaign, once again call upon all international organizations, awakened consciences, human rights defenders, and advocates of the abolition of the death penalty across the world for support and solidarity.

On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in the 137th consecutive week of this protest movement, members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign went on a hunger strike in the following 62 prisons:
