Civil activist Mohammad Davari has been transferred to the Central Detention Center of Shiraz, since Wednesday, December 16, 2020. This happened after he reported in to the Unit Implementing the Verdicts of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Shiraz. He was arrested there and taken to the Central Detention Center of Shiraz.
Earlier, the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz had sentenced Mr. Davari to 8 years and six months. The verdict was later commuted to 3 years and 9 months during the revision stage. Two years and nine months of this sentence will be implemented.
Agents of the Intelligence Ministry arrested Mohammad Davari on October 2, 2019, in Shiraz. They took him to the Department of Intelligence of Shiraz (No. 100). The residence of Mr. Davari was subsequently inspected by agents of the Intelligence Department and his personal belongings, books and manuscripts were confiscated.
After several stages of interrogation in the detention center of the Intelligence Department, Mohammad Davari was sent to Adelabad Prison on January 11, 2020.
Eventually, on April 19, 2020, he was temporarily released by depositing a bail 1.5 billion Tomans until his prosecution is completed.
The First Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz sentenced Mr. Davari in March to 7 years and six months in prison for “membership in an opposition group”, and to one year in prison for “propaganda against the state.” His total sentence added up to 8 years and six months.
In September 2020, the First Branch of the Revision Court of Fars Province commuted his sentence to 3 years and 9 months. According to Article 134 of the Islamic Punishment Law, 2 years and 9 monhts of this sentence will be implemented for membership in an opposition group.
Civil activist Mohammad Davari was born in 1994 in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad Province, in southwestern Iran. He has a civil engineering degree from the Free University of Yasuj. He is working on his Bachelor’s degree in political sciences in Golestan University of Shiraz.
Agents of the Intelligence Ministry arrested Mohammad Davari on August 9, 2018, at his father’s home in the city of Yasuj. After three days, Mr. Davari was sent to the Prison of Yasuj for temporary detention for two months.
Mr. Davari was summoned to the IRGC Department of Intelligence and arrested on March 5, 2018, for posting material in social media which criticized the regime’s officials for the living conditions of people and the role of the IRGC in the crash of a passenger airliner travelling from Tehran to Yasuj.
The court convicted him of disseminating propaganda against the state and acting against national security by disturbing public opinion. He was imprisoned in the Central Prison of Yasuj. On March 13, 2018, he was temporarily released from Yasuj Prison on a bail of 50 million Tomans.
Mohammad Davari was also detained another time, when he pulled down a public poster of Hashemi Rafsanjani after his death. He was released after 10 days on bail.
