Kamran Rezaei-Far, a 59-year-old political prisoner, is currently held in Ward 4 of Evin Prison under extremely poor health conditions. Following stomach cancer surgery, he developed a pulmonary embolism and is now in critical condition. Despite this, he has been denied access to specialized medical care, essential treatment, and even basic hygiene and nutritional support.
According to reports, delays caused by Evin Prison’s warden Heydatollah Farzadi, along with the prison’s medical staff—including the head doctor and his deputy—prevented Kamran’s timely transfer to medical facilities. These delays have worsened his condition and led to dangerous complications. It has been reported that after surgery, Kamran was returned to prison prematurely and inhumanely shackled to a hospital bed with handcuffs and leg irons, without completing his recovery.
Kamran had long suffered from digestive issues, but surgery was only performed following a late diagnosis. Now severely weakened and experiencing drastic weight loss, he remains deprived of essential post-operative care. Despite doctors’ warnings regarding the need for continuous medical supervision, prison authorities continue to ignore his urgent healthcare needs.
Rezaei-Far was arrested in August 2023 and tried in November of the same year alongside four other political prisoners, accused of collaborating with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). On November 26, 2023, he was sentenced to five years in prison by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari.
This is not his first imprisonment. Kamran was previously arrested in January 2020, and in 2021, he was initially sentenced to death—a ruling later commuted to five years in prison. After his release in February 2022, he was once again arrested in September 2023.
